Annual Fund

Donors to Truman State University's Annual Fund provide nearly half a million dollars in support of a variety of student needs. Without these crucial funds, many educational opportunities would be scaled down or eliminated.

Annual gifts to Truman State University are an important source of student scholarships, student loans for computers and study abroad, funding for cultural programs and operational support for each of the academic divisions at Truman. Generous annual gifts provide funding for all of these things and create a margin of excellence. These enhancements are reflected in consistently high national rankings as well as the caliber of students who attend and graduate from Truman.

Why should I give to Truman State University?

Truman's budget is comprised of state funding, student tuition and private gifts. In the past ten years, state funding has dropped from 75 percent to around 50 percent. Even as state funding for higher education is dropping, Truman is committed to providing an excellent education at an affordable price. Private gifts from Truman alumni, parents and friends are more important than ever as they provide crucial funding which augments a shrinking portion of the state budget targeted for higher education.

Where does my money go?

It's up to you. You may choose to give to the Unrestricted Fund or designate your gift to a specific fund.

  • Unrestricted Fund

Unrestricted gifts provide crucial funding for the areas of greatest need each year. These include student scholarships, state-of-the-art technology, scholarships for children of alumni, financial assistance for study abroad, faculty development and research, additional support for each of the academic divisions, and cultural programs like the Kohlenberg Lyceum Series.

You may choose to designate your gift to a specific fund, and a variety of scholarship funds, divisional accounts and athletic funds are available. Here are a few of the most popular Truman State University Foundation funds:

  • Scholarship Funds

While Truman students are among the most academically talented in the nation, many come from modest family backgrounds and have limited means of paying for an education. As alumni, many of the students who received scholarships give back with annual gifts to the scholarship fund of their choice. You can create a new scholarship fund or give to an existing scholarship fund that matches your interests.

  • Athletics/Bulldog Club

The Bulldog Club provides private support for Truman's intercollegiate athletic teams. Private contributions are increasingly important to offset the expense of operating an outstanding athletics program. Contributions help fund team travel expenses, team and individual awards, uniforms, equipment, team promotions and recruiting. You may also designate your gift to a specific area or sport.

  • Kohlenberg Lyceum Series Fund
The Kohlenberg Lyceum Series brings premier cultural events to the Truman State University campus for the enrichment of the entire community. The Truman State University Board of Governors renamed the Lyceum Series after the late Dr. Gilbert Kohlenberg, who is credited as founder of the modern Series. With this renaming an endowment fund was created to support the program. Contributions help assure that all performances are free to students and provide continuing support for the Kohlenberg Lyceum Series Fund.
