Gift of $50,000 Creates Calvin E. Roebuck
Scholarship in Business
December 2008―Calvin
Roebuck and his wife, Lydia, of Columbia, Mo., have made a
$50,000 gift to establish the Calvin E. Roebuck Scholarship in
Business. The scholarship, funded through the couple's gift to
Truman's "Bright Minds Bright Futures" campaign and fortified by
a matching gift from State Farm Insurance, will provide
opportunity for students majoring in business administration at
Truman State University.
The Roebuck scholarship commemorates Calvin's distinguished
career with State Farm Insurance. After graduating from Truman
in 1957, Calvin began his career with Prudential and joined
State Farm Insurance in 1961. He served in many capacities with
State Farm, including deputy regional vice president of the
Missouri-Kansas region, and he retired as vice president of the
Ohio region in 2000 after nearly 40 years of service to the
company.
Calvin and Lydia are members of Truman's Joseph Baldwin Society
and the President's Circle, and Calvin is a member of the
campaign steering committee and the Truman State University Foundation
Board of Directors. He also served on the university's Magruder
Hall Campaign Committee, and in 2003, he was honored as Truman's
Alumnus of the Year.
The "Bright Minds Bright Futures" campaign is a major component
of Truman's strategic plan and vision to become the nation's
premier public liberal arts and sciences university. The $30
million campaign will provide support for student scholarships,
student enrichment initiatives, faculty development, and
enhancements to the athletic program.
