Roktoberfest to Benefit Truman's Investing In Students Fund & National Fibromyalgia Association
September 2009―The
Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, in association with Blue Key,
Cardinal Key, and Tau Lambda Sigma, will be hosting Roktoberfest, a philanthropic event to benefit
Truman's
Investing in Students Fund as well as the
National Fibromyalgia Association (NFA). The event,
which will feature four bands, will be held at the
Journal Building downtown Kirksville, Mo., on
Friday, Oct. 23, from 7-11 p.m. Tickets, which will
be in the form of a silicone bracelet, will cost $5
and will be available for purchase no later than
Oct. 1.
Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the
Roktoberfest event will be donated to Truman's
Investing in Students Fund. The University created
the fund in response to the growing financial burden
placed on students and their families in today's
economic climate. University President Darrell
Krueger and his wife, Nancy, established the fund
with a $30,000 gift earlier this year. University
constituents, including alumni, friends, faculty and
staff, corporations have also provided support for
the Investing in Students Fund.
The National Fibromyalgia Association, which develops and executes programs to improve the quality of life for people who suffer from fibromyalgia, will receive 75 percent of the proceeds from the Roktoberfest event. According to the NFA Web site, fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder that effects an estimated 10 million Americans.
Roktoberfest shirts will soon be available (cost should be no greater than $15). To be a sponsor for the event, the minimum donation is $25, and sponsors will receive a spot on the back of the shirts for their business's name.
