March 2012―Kenneth and Kathleen Rickli recently established the
Rickli Family Endowed Scholarship through the Truman State University Foundation
in honor of the valuable preparation that Kenneth and his siblings received at
Affton High School in St. Louis, Mo. The scholarship also honors the memory of
Doris Ahrens, who was both a teacher and mentor to the Rickli family during
their time at the Affton High School.
Kenneth's older brother, Al Rickli, graduated from Affton High School in 1954,
followed by Kenneth’s graduation in 1958. Their sister, Geri Rickli-Peters,
graduated from the high school in 1962. A Truman alumnus, Kenneth graduated from
Truman (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College) in 1965 with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Business Administration.
Doris Ahrens was a highly respected English teacher at Affton High School who
had a deep and lasting impact on the Rickli family’s lives. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Ahrens' commitment to
her students inspired the Ricklis to give back to other students who graduate
from Affton High School.
This award will provide a renewable full-tuition scholarship for one student
from each Affton High School graduating class beginning with the Class of 2012.
Each recipient will have demonstrated a strong record of academic achievement
who shows promise of future success at Truman.
