Bulldogs
Forever:
A Campaign
for Bulldog Football
The
2007 season marks the 100th anniversary of Bulldog football, and
over that span one resounding theme has always been present ― a
commitment to excellence.
Truman football boasts an all-time record of 508-338-34 (.597) and have won 26 MIAA championships, seven more than the next closest school in conference history. The Bulldogs have earned postseason play five times and have reached the NCAA tournament four times. Fourteen Bulldogs have earned first-team all-American honors, eight have been named MIAA MVP and eight have gone on to play in the National Football League. Additionally, Bulldog football is well represented in Truman's Athletic Hall of Fame with 123 individuals and one entire squad represented.
Our teams have been led by individuals who have held an unwavering commitment to excellence. The first official coach was O.C. Bell, who was appointed by the Board of Regents in 1907. Other men who have led the Purple and White include C.B. Simmons, H.I. McWilliams, Don and Fred Faurot, Earl Svendsen, Malcolm Eiken, Vincent Gehringer, James Dougherty, Maurice "Red" Wade, Marv Braden, Russ Sloan, Randy Lukehart, Ron Taylor, Bruce Craddock, Jack Ball, Eric Holm, John Ware, and Shannon Currier, who has led the team since 2004.
Time has caught up to the field and facilities of Stokes Stadium, and in recent years, renovations have become the leading need for the program. The areas of greatest need are:
Truman's student athletes excel both on the scoreboard and in the classroom, and we want to provide them with first-class facilities in both arenas. The University has made significant strides in updating our academic facilities in recent years, and this campaign will allow Truman to begin shaping our athletic facilities to meet the demands of our athletic programs. Completing the improvements in this campaign will enable us to:
In addition to providing our athletic program with a first-class environment and playing surface, the installation of synthetic turf, lights and bleachers for visitors will dramatically enhance and expand the types of events that can be held at the stadium. Nighttime football games, large concerts, and campus events are just a few of the expanded opportunities that will be available.
The entire renovation project will encourage excellence from our coaches and athletes, generate enthusiasm and excitement in the Truman and greater northeast communities, and enable each of us to take pride in returning stokes Stadium into a first-class facility.
The Bulldog Football Program invites you to join them in this special initiative by making a significant financial commitment to the project. More than 1,200 past and current players, coaches, parents, and friends of the football program are being asked to contribute.
As the largest fundraising project in
the history of the program, significant gift support is needed to
supplement the leadership and advance gifts to ensure a successful
campaign.
Larger gifts may be pledged over a period of years (typically no more
than four years).
