Parents Council Project

About the Parents Council

The Truman Parents Council is a group of Truman parents appointed by University President Barbara Dixon to serve as an advisory council for the University and to assist with the selection of fundraising projects that would be of interest to Truman parents.

Each year, the Parents Council selects a special fundraising project to benefit Truman students. For the past decade, parents have contributed more than $600,000 in resources for projects that enhance the students' educational experience at Truman.

 2007-2008 Parents Council Project:
Technology Enhancements for the Student Union Building

Last year the Student Union Building played host to 675 student events and had a total event load of 2,991 events including student, faculty, administrative, staff and off-campus events. Along with these events came requests for technology; there were a total of 1,569 requests for technological tools as part of the 675 student events. When considering all 2,991 events, the Student Union had 4,947 different technological needs just last year.

As the Student Union continues to be renovated, we are trying to create flexible, technology-laden spaces to answer all of these technological needs in the future. This expansive project for parents will provide data projectors and motorized drop-down screens for the various meeting rooms, a complete sound system and stage lighting for the Down Under (used for concerts and speakers), and a new sound system for the Georgian Room. When finished, this project will allow the Student Union Building to better serve the entire University community.
