About the Parents Council

The Truman Parents Council is a group of Truman parents appointed by the university president to serve as an advisory council for the University and to assist with the selection of fundraising projects that would be of interest to Truman parents.

Each year, the Parents Council selects a special fundraising project to benefit Truman students. For the past decade, parents have contributed more than $600,000 in resources for projects that enhance the students' educational experience at Truman.

Truman Parents Project

Current Project: Library Café/Coffee Shop
The 2009-10 Truman Parents Project will add a Library Café/Coffee Shop to Pickler Memorial Library. A café is a popular feature in many academic libraries and provides space for students to have refreshments while they relax or study in a casual atmosphere. In surveys and suggestions, Truman students requested a café in the Library. Pickler Memorial Library is a high-traffic building with an entrance count of 544,000 for the last 12-month period.

The Library will renovate an area currently off the main atrium and across from the entrance. It will include seating for individuals and groups, a service counter  providing various refreshments, and an area to be used for special events (poetry readings, guest speakers, readings by authors, etc.). The café will be an attractive area for students to study, take a break, or gather with other students.
