Impact of Charitable Giving

In 2003, through the generosity of RiteCare Valley of Columbia, a Missouri affiliate of the Scottish Rite, the RiteCare/Truman Early Literacy Lab was established to prevent and address literacy problems in children who are at high risk. RiteCare Valley’s mission is to aid and assist children with learning and communication disorders. Services to children and their families are provided by students and faculty of the Truman State University Communication Disorders program through the clinic. This gift from the Scottish Rite provided funds for furnishings and materials, faculty training, and other program start-up expenses.

In 2009, the services and instructional opportunities provided through the RiteCare/Truman Early Literacy Lab were further supported and enhanced through a gift of $100,000 from RiteCare Valley of Columbia, Missouri.

“I am extremely grateful for the hands-on clinical opportunities I have received in Truman’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. I have been exposed to a wide variety of clients, and this has already been great preparation for my graduate training. I am confident these experiences are excellent training for a career as a speech-language pathologist. The financial support I have received as a student has made this training possible, and I am excited to support the clinic with my charitable gifts and help others in the community.”
